Ouqba poised for Newbury run

Despite not winning since the easy victory in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot 14 months ago, Barry Hills’ smart colt Ouqba is poised to put in a big performance in the Group2 CGA Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

The four-year-old son of Red Ransom showed that he still retains all of his ability when running affine second to Paco Boy at Newbury in May in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes and again looked in the process of making his presence felt when hampered at a vital stage in last month’s Summer Mile at Ascot.

Granted a clear run this time around, Ouqba looks sure to be there or thereabouts in a race that promises to be well worth watching.
