Meade’s Go Native course worry
Noel Meade has expressed his concern that Cheltenham Festival officials could “get it wrong” for his Champion Hurdle favourite Go Native (3/1) and “over-water” the course.
Simon Claisse, Cheltenham’s Clerk of the Course and Director of Racing, announced on Monday he was hoping to produce ideal jumping ground for the showpiece event, although his plans were delayed because of overnight frost.
Meade has last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner and favourite Go Native running but fears the ground could work against the market leader.
He said: “I’m sure a lot of trainers of soft-ground horses will welcome the news, but then there are those like us that don’t really want it.”
He added: “The danger is if they get it wrong and over-water or it rains heavily overnight, you just never know.”
