Big Fella makes National appeal
Big Fella Thanks is now 10/1jf with Betfred for next month’s John Smith’s Grand National after an impressive victory at Newbury on Saturday.
The eight-year-old, ridden by Barry Geraghty, got the better of stablemate Pasco in the Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase and is now well fancied to win the Aintree showpiece.
Paul Nicholls has never won the Grand National, despite having 44 runners in the race over the years, but has both ante post favourites, Big Fella Thanks and Tricky Trickster, ahead of the 2010 contest.
Rugby Walsh (4/6 to ride Kauto Star to Cheltenham Gold Cup success) was on board Pasco on Saturday and remains unclear which of the joint favourites he will saddle for the National – which takes place on Saturday April 10.
Nicholls revealed: “I thought this race was perfect for Pasco and asked Barry to ride with a view towards him riding in the National if Ruby picks Tricky Trickster.”
