Binocular decision next week
Nicky Henderson could still reverse his decision not to run Binocular (12/1 ante-post) in the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday week, Frank Berry has suggested.
Last year’s third has been carrying a muscle injury and Henderson revealed last month his charge would not run (Go Native and Solwhit 4/1 joint favourites with Betfred).
The six-year-old has been off colour for large parts of the season and jockey Tony McCoy was far from gushing in his praise when he scored a routine success at Sandown last month.
However, Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus, has said a decision will be left with trainer Henderson.
“He’s had some treatment and we’ll just see how he gets on next week before deciding where we’re going with him,” said Berry.
“He’ll have a school and do some work next week and then we’ll see about Cheltenham.
“There is also Aintree and Punchestown to think about but it’s in Nicky’s hands and we’ll call it next week.”
